We think that the family plan policy in China may make some contribution to the high rise in the crime rate. More specifically, that is to say that the risk for violent crimes later in life was elevated among the only children. When they are young they do not have older siblings, only children in the family acquire more autocratic, less interactive interpersonal styles and that this has negative consequences for peer popularity and when they grow up, they may be at risk of peer rejection and this may lead to a greater risk of developing antisocial problems.
Meanwhile, as the only child of the family, the students will undertake too much pressure from their family as in traditional history, children are the hope of the family. Never before in Chinese history have university students from the society undertaken the burden of so much expectation and trouble at a relatively young age. China implemented its family policy in 1980, so those who will gradate in 2004 will be the first group of the only child undergraduate cohort after after the policy. Ma was born on May 4th, 1981 and belongs to the first group of the univestiy students after the open door policy.
We are here not to blame the social system, but there must be something deficit that cause the rising crime rate in the university. And besides the social reason, the educational system may also play a part in the rising of the crime rate .
An incomplete national education
a. test-oriented system
China can trace its back to the histroy to the text oritented text in Tang Dynasty when the goventment began the entrance examination to select the government officers.Thus text oriented education will last for quite a long time. Since entering the university is still the hope of many parents’ to their kids. Since then many people think entering university may ensure people to have greater potential to have a better job and gain higher recognitition in the conuntry. It is a very popular saying in China now that tests are the teachers’ treasure and markes are the students’ life. The test –oritented education is thus more popular in the rural area and in the urban area, and many students in the high school only push student to study hard to achieve good academic achievement without even thinking about a healthy development of psychology or personality while middle school stage is the most criucial stage when a people begin fullly develop his personalty .
We can also find that university from the countryside are easy to commit crimes. Too much pressure from the test oriented education in the middle school and a will to release tha pressure is one part of the reason.
Many researches indicate that a people form his personality from age 4 to 11 and finlize it from 12-17. And in China, 12-17 are the period when students spend in their junior high and senir high but if the teacher pay only attention to the mark while ignoring the others , great tragedy will sure to avoid.
Deputy director-general of public security department Xian Yan-ming released in a conference that on a notebook found by the policeman, Majijue wrote that he wanted to killed his father when he heard his parents quarrelling but giving up finally with the thought he would be sentenced ten years sentence at that age for murder. Also Majia jue wrote in his notebook that when one day his grandmother quarrelled over him about the choice of the TV channel. Even this small accident arouse his hatred towards the old lady and he wrote ‘hate ’ ‘hate ’ ‘hate ’！on his notebook.
If such tragedy could be found earlier , then a tragedy 9 years later which he kiilled his four consecutive days after he had quarrels with threee of them will be avoided , but when at the middle school both junior and senior high, he is a top students which is always regardes as an apple in the teacher’s eye. The case of Ma Jiajue really tolls an alarm to the whole nation’s edicational syatem and the text oriented examination.
