The Singapore National Environmental Agency (NEA) has imposed pollution control requirements on industrial developments to prevent any land contamination. In addition, guidelines on site assessment and remediation have also been developed to address any contamination resulting from the accumulation of undetected release of contaminants. The land management authorities, JTC and SLA, have also developed their own guidelines to meet the needs of their land users. Basically, in any case, if the assessment criteria are exceeded, a risk based assessment can be conducted to assess the risk levels to determine if the levels of contamination are within acceptable limits for the intended usage and if further remediation is required.
